One of the most important parts of any organisation is its employees, how they operate as a team and the leadership that they have. So whilst here at the Retail Data Partnership we are celebrating one of our most successful ever months, August was also a sad time as we said goodbye to our General Manager David Smith who retired at the end of the month.
When Stephen Burnett founded The Retail Data Partnership (TRDP) in 1998, he had an interesting conundrum. He had a great idea, a great product but no one to deliver the new ShopMate EPoS systems to retailers. He turned to a David Smith, a level headed friend with life long experience of problem-solving for Pedigree Foods. Together, and with the help of the rapidly expanding team at The Retail Data Partnership they turned a small front-room enterprise into one of the UK’s leading EPoS suppliers and an employer of over 50 sales, support and technical staff.
In David’s 17 year tenure, he has moved from installations to management and finally on to the board of directors as General Manager. His support, level headedness and can do attitude have always been a positive force at the company and he will be sorely missed. It is testimony to David’s dedication to the business that he has been steadily working for the past 12 months to ensure that the team he leaves behind are prepared to drive TRDP forward into the future.
In his retirement, David will still remain a director of the company, and will continue to provide his knowledge and guidance (and bad jokes) to the team, as well as his support to Stephen and the rest of the board. We are sure you will join us in wishing him all the best in his retirement.
