The store is a family concern - with Samuel working alongside his parents Sandeep and Keiran. Together they have run the store for three years. It's a traditional store, stocking mostly groceries for local households with an emphasis on a well stocked alcohol section. They offer a wide range of wines as well as craft ales and multi pack beers. They are renowned locally for their fresh fruit and vegetables, regularly restocked by a local supplier. The store has parking outside for around 4-5 cars and during our visit these were in use for 5-10 minute periods whilst customers popped by.
The store is situated at a relatively busy junction in a bustling small town with shops and a garage, takeaways, cafes and local primary school - so most of the business comes from permanent residents. Just a stone's throw away is the car park for Sherwood Forest so the store benefits from some tourist trade - nearby there is a hotel and a youth hostel which brings fresh customers, especially throughout the summer months.
The Market Garden makes the most of opportunities to expand the business, supplying a local cafe with wholesale milk and fresh vegetables. This diversification provides a small but reliable income stream to support the main trade of the store.
New MediaMaster screens have been fitted since we took our photographs and these will help the store make the most of wholesaler promotions and improve sales. Combined with the friendly welcome that the family offer their customers it's clear the business will continue to thrive under their leadership.
