Flavoured chocolate is all the rage once again – with the much-awaited Terry’s Chocolate Mint soon to be released. We compared sales of Mint, Orange, Caramel and Salted Caramel flavours of chocolate bars and blocks to see which one performed best.

Currently Caramel is undergoing a revival – the original Caramac bar, made from caramel flavoured condensed milk, was released by Makintosh’s in 1959 but in recent years the market has rediscovered the flavour and a whole new range of products has been developed. Cadbury’s launched the Caramilk, which was (originally only available in Australia), in 2021 – it’s made of real white chocolate and (see below) has clearly been a hit in the UK market.
Go for Gold
In March this year, Nestle launched the Golden collection – a range which includes Milkybar Gold, Aero Gold Buttons and Blocks and Munchies Gold which are made with Caramac and Smarties Gold Buttons.
With such a large new range, it’s no surprise to see that Golden Caramel is currently performing really well. Chocolate Orange flavour experienced a boom of its own in Summer 2021 so we suspect manufacturers are responding to this.
Other new releases include Cadbury’s Mint Twirl and The McVities Gold Billions Wafer.
