How GroceryAid Helps Retailers
Retail is at the heart of every community – and so are the people who keep it going. But running a store isn’t always easy. From financial struggles to health issues, bereavement to burnout, life can throw up challenges for anyone. That’s where GroceryAid comes in.
GroceryAid is the industry’s very own charity, offering emotional, practical and financial support to anyone who works (or has worked) in grocery. That includes convenience store staff, forecourt retailers, wholesalers, and symbol group teams – at any level, from the shop floor to head office.
A Lifeline When It’s Needed Most
If you or a colleague are struggling, GroceryAid offers free and confidential help in a huge range of areas, including:

- Counselling and mental health support
- 24/7 Helpline for immediate emotional support and specialist support programmes to help with stress, anxiety, grief and more
- Financial assistance
- One-off emergency grants and ongoing support for those facing hardship
- Legal and debt advice
- Access to expert guidance on everything from housing to workplace rights
- Support for carers, parents and those facing domestic abuse
Because life doesn’t stop when you’re behind the counter. Their services are available all year round, and many are completely free.
Backed by the Industry
GroceryAid is funded by the grocery trade – and that includes us. This year, the ShopMate team took to the water to support their vital work, rowing in the GroceryAid Dragon Boat Race alongside teams from across the sector.
It was a brilliant day with a serious purpose: to raise funds for a charity that supports the very people we work with every day.

A Cause Close to Home
At ShopMate we work with thousands of independent retailers and we know how hard they work, how many hours they put in, and how many hats they wear. GroceryAid is there for them when things get tough.
That’s why we’re proud to support GroceryAid – and to shine a light on the help that’s out there for anyone working in our trade.
Tell Your Colleagues About GroceryAid
GroceryAid has put a pack together for independent retailers and convenience store owners to help spread the message with colleagues. The pack contains a range of printed materials that you can display behind the scenes to remind colleagues of the support available to them through GroceryAid.
